"All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth."

Our ministries with Tanzania

2007 Tanzania Mission Team

During the summer of 2007, five members of Cross & Crown, including Pastor Finklea, teamed with five others from the South Carolina Synod, including Bishop Donges, and traveled to Tanzania in East Africa. Much of the time was spent in Magoye, a small village near Mbeya in southwest Tanzania, meeting with fellow Lutherans of the South-Western Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) to learn more about how we can reach out to them as they reach out to us.   The South-Western Diocese is the "companion synod" to the South Carolina Synod.

"Cross & Crown Care Cottages"

CottageA need exists in Magoye for safe and secure housing. Cross & Crown decided to help build such housing in partnership with the ELCT for families and children orphaned by the African HIV/AIDs epidemic.

During Advent 2007, members and friends of Cross & Crown donated “bricks” at $20 each, with one hundred "bricks" constituting one cottage.  The congregation raised funds to build five cottages!

Sewing Machine Project

Cross & Crown members recently contributed 15 trendle sewing machines for use by the South-Western Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. The Diocese will now begin a vocational training program for young women (12-13 years old) orphaned by the HIV/AIDs epidemic.

Each student will be trained on one of these sewing machines. Upon completion of the program, she will then take the machine with her as she begins a new career.

The training program will need 6 additional sewing machines each year as new students enter the program. Cross & Crown members hope to be able to continue providing funding for these sewing machines.

Future ministry opportunities
